The Government of the Balearic Islands has approved, for the first time unanimously, the commercial opening calendar for holidays and Sundays in 2025. The decision was made during the Inter-Island Advisory Commission on Commerce, with representatives from the Island Councils, trade unions, and business associations from the sector participating.

A historic consensus in the commercial sector

The Minister of Business, Employment, and Energy of Balearic Islands, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, emphasised the significance of the achieved consensus: “This is the first time the Commission has unanimously approved the opening calendar for Sundays and holidays for the year 2025. I want to congratulate and thank all the representatives from trade unions, business associations, and organisations for their dialogue and reaching an agreement.”

This agreement marks a significant step forward for the commercial sector in the Balearic Islands and benefits both traders and consumers, as highlighted by the Minister. He also reiterated the Government’s commitment to dialogue and consensus in all decisions affecting the sector.

Opening days in 2025

The commercial opening calendar for 2025 includes the following dates:

  • 2 January
  • 1 March
  • 17 April
  • 15 August
  • 7 September
  • 1 November
  • 30 November
  • 6 December
  • 21 December
  • 28 December

The dates of 15 August and 7 September are subject to modification by the local councils, who must notify any changes before 15 November 2024.

During the session, the Director-General of Business, Self-Employed, and Commerce, José Antonio Caldés, congratulated the business associations (ASODIB, AFEDECO, CBC, ASCOME) and trade unions (UGT, USO, CCOO, ANGED, PIMECO PIMEED, PIMEF) for their ability to reach consensus. He also encouraged them to continue working towards improving the competitiveness of the commercial sector in the Balearic Islands.
