The eleventh edition of Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, Filmin’s film, music and conference festival, will have a hybrid nature for the sixth consecutive year: from July 26 to August 1, 2021 the contest will be held in Palma, while from 26 July to August 26, an expanded version of its film and documentary lineup will be available online at Filmin.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the director of the festival and co-founder of Filmin, Jaume Ripoll, who served to make the event’s name change official. Atlàntida Film Fest is renamed Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest (AMFF), in a gesture that illustrates the festival’s commitment to the island in recent years. Ripoll wanted to thank the Balearic institutions, and all the sponsors and collaborators of the festival, a support without which it would be unthinkable that AMFF would have reached its eleventh edition: “The Festival is planning its most ambitious edition in terms of programming, guests and conferences With the support of the public, the European Community, Filmin and local institutions we hope to live up to expectations, “he says.
One of the novelties of this edition is that, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the Serra de Tramuntana as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the festival will celebrate some of its events in the emblematic space of the Raixa estate, in the Bunyola municipality.
Inauguration of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest
The Mallorcan director Agustí Villaronga and the singer María Rodés will be the main protagonists of the inauguration of AMFF 2021, which will take place on July 26 at the La Misericòrdia Cultural Center in Palma. The first will present his new film, “El ventre del mar”, based on a text by Alessandro Baricco and in which he draws a parallel between the sinking of the Medusa raft in 1816, one of the greatest tragedies of the French navy, and the humanitarian crisis that has been going on for years in the Mediterranean.
For her part, the Barcelona-born María Rodés picks up the baton from other great soloists such as María José Llergo, Rocío Márquez or Julia De Castro and will perform at the opening to present the songs from her new album, “Lilith”, released last year. Rodés leads a program of truly luxurious concerts: Dani and Cabiria (both July 27), Rodrigo Cuevas and Betacam (both on July 28), Mafalda and Chico Blanco (both on July 29), Morad (July 30) and Rigoberta Bandini and Daniel Sabater (both July 31).
Events that make industry
Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest will be the first Spanish festival to host EuroVOD, a meeting between the main European Video On Demand platforms that to date had been held at the Venice and Berlin festivals. In addition, the festival will also be the home of the fourth edition of the film project development competition, Mallorca Talents Lab. Twelve young creators, six of them with their fiction projects and another six with their documentaries, will participate in tutoring sessions with great professionals in the sector and will be eligible for two prizes of 50,000 and 20,000 euros.
