Palma will host between 5 and 28 September the XXI Mostra de Teatre Aficionat ‘Burball’ (XXI Amateur Theatre Festival), which will bring together 15 local amateur theatre companies at the Teatre Municipal Maruja Alfaro Mar i Terra. The aim of ‘Burball’ is to maintain the quality and prestige of local theatre, supporting emerging and established companies, as well as all creative initiatives that help enhance Palma’s cultural level, particularly in the framework of the city’s project as European Capital of Culture 2031.

The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture Javier Bonet highlighted that ‘Burball’ is an event that “has earned, on its own merits, a place of unquestionable relevance within the cultural and performing arts calendar of our city”. Bonet added that the festival represents “a unique opportunity to enjoy the creativity, effort and passion of the participating groups, who, once again, will captivate the audience with funny, unique and moving stories.”
The Palma councillor also emphasised the importance of the theatrical tradition on the island, stating that Palma and Mallorca are “immensely fortunate to have a theatrical family of great talent that, throughout history and in different circumstances, has known how to entertain, amuse, educate and inspire various generations of Mallorcans”.
Tickets will be available at very affordable prices, between €5 and €10, and most performances will take place at 20:00 hours at the Teatre Municipal Maruja Alfaro Mar i Terra.
