The local commerce protection programme Emblemàtics Balears has reached a new milestone by surpassing 400 participating establishments. Recently, ten new shops from Palma joined the programme: Carns Comas, Carnicería Bonnín, Carnicería Germans Vicens, Espardenyeria Llunes, Golfos Casual Wear, La Argentina / Donna, Miró Jewelry, Pescados Marilén, Tapicería Vidal and Xarcuteria Creus. With these new additions, the programme now includes a total of 401 registered establishments.

This initiative of the Agència de Desenvolupament Regional de les Illes Balears (ADR Balears), under the Ministry of Enterprise, Self-Employment and Energy, aims to protect local commercial activity. Its main goal is to highlight businesses with the most history and tradition in each municipality. A total of 34 municipalities across all the islands participate, including Palma, Inca, Ciutadella de Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Mahón.
Categories of Emblemàtics Balears
Emblemàtics Balears classifies shops into different categories. The Arraigats stand out for a unique product or trade. The Con historia shops are those with over 75 years of history, or exceptionally from 50 years. The Con patrimonio businesses have notable interior and exterior heritage elements or intangible value. Shops that meet all three categories are considered emblematic. Currently, there are 100 emblematic shops, 135 classified as arraigats and with history, 31 with heritage and history, 59 with history, 60 arraigats and 16 with both arraigats and heritage.
The programme allows municipalities to showcase their uniqueness and the richness of local commerce. The website www.emblematicsbalears.es provides detailed information on each participating business.
