The Hotel Business Federation of Mallorca (FEHM) has launched a positive communication campaign under the slogan “Tourist, thanks for visiting Mallorca”, aiming to highlight the island’s tourist vocation and thank the millions of visitors who choose it every year. The initiative takes place in a context of growing tension, following vandalism such as graffiti on the façade of the Tourism Ministry and the burning of photographs of businessmen and public officials by the radical group Arran.

“Attacking businessmen with names and surnames is an act that could constitute a hate crime,” said FEHM president Javier Vich, who defended that “tourism provides work to more than a third of the active population of the Balearic Islands. Discrediting or attacking it is an attack on the wellbeing of thousands of families. We respond with actions: dialogue, employment, social commitment and respect.”
Billboards
The campaign includes billboards in different parts of the island with messages such as:
-
“Tourist, go home safe and come back soon”.
-
“Tourist, don’t go home, stay longer with us”.
-
“Tourist, go home happy. Be happier returning to Mallorca soon”.
-
“Tourist, thanks for visiting Mallorca”.
Digital materials for social networks will also be distributed, and an informative letter will be sent to tour operators and international media.
Tourism, the engine of the Balearic economy
According to the latest 2024 data, the hotel sector generates more than 61,000 direct jobs in the Balearics and more than 81,000 if indirect jobs are included, figures that exceed 99,000 affiliated workers during the high season. Furthermore, tourism boosts other sectors such as catering, culture or transport, with over 234,000 workers affiliated throughout the entire value chain, representing one in every three jobs on the islands.
