The International Women’s Day – 8M in Mallorca 2025 – is commemorated on the island with more than twenty activities organised by various entities, including the Institut Balear de la Dona (IbDona) and the Ajuntament de Palma. This year, under the slogan “For an inclusive perspective towards equality”, special emphasis is placed on the visibility of women with disabilities, highlighting their role in society and the challenges they face.

In addition to cultural and advocacy activities, 8M in Mallorca 2025 will feature two demonstrations in Palma. At 6:00 pm, the Transfeminist Coordinator has called for a march at Plaça d’Espanya. Later, at 7:30 pm, the Feminist Movement will organise another demonstration at the same meeting point, reaffirming their commitment to the fight for equality and social justice.

Highlighted activities

One of the most significant initiatives is the premiere of the documentary Una mirada inclusiva cap a la igualtat, produced by Sealand Films for IbDona. This documentary will be screened on 11 March at the Teatre Principal de Palma and will be presented by journalist Marta Garau. The production tells the stories of four women with different types of disabilities: motor, sensory, and cognitive, highlighting their experiences and challenges.

Another notable event is the show L’autobús de na Rosa és per a totes by La Fada Despistada. This musical theatre performance, aimed at all audiences, invites families to board Rosa Parks’ bus, which is occupied by female figures who have changed history, such as Malala Yousafzai, Frida Kahlo, Ada Lovelace, Marie Curie, Helen Keller, Ann Sullivan, Harriet Tubman, and Wanda Díaz.

The Ajuntament de Palma and its focus on motherhood

For its part, the Ajuntament de Palma has focused its programme on the theme of motherhood and its impact on women’s lives. As part of this initiative, guided discussions entitled Maternitats (in)visibles, darrere de l’evidència have been organised in cultural spaces such as Can Balaguer and Casal Solleric. These visits will take place throughout 8 March at 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 7:00 pm.

Among the scheduled activities, a film series on motherhood also stands out, taking place at CineCiutat. The films that will be screened include La maternal, Salve María, Mamífera, and Cinco lobitos.
